K-beauty may be the most popular beauty regimen to come out of Asia, but South Asian beauty is also breaking into the Western world. Are you ready to adopt this new wave of beauty and haircare?
We celebrate AAPI month with Akash and Nikita Mehta, the Founders of Fable & Mane, a South Asian-owned hair wellness brand. After establishing careers in luxury retail, the sibling duo decided to shift gears and create Fable & Mane, which was inspired by ancient Indian secrets based on a holistic wellness approach to achieving healthy and strong hair. This week, they joined the podcast to educate our listeners on how they successfully launched their business during the pandemic (where Fable & Mane products were featured in Kourtney Kardashian’s Poosh bundle), as well as educate our audience on the Indian history and traditions behind the brand.
- Driven by social media platforms such as TikTok, scalp care education is having a moment as people educate each other in an easy and simple way. To echo this “moment,” Akash mentions that hair oiling can help to rejuvenate your scalp and restore the balance it needs. He says, “you forget that your scalp is your skin. You put so much effort on your face, your neck and your body. But what about that skin that lies under your hair?”
- Although a DTC brand at its core, Fable & Mane also stock their products in retailers such as Sephora and Boots. For the company, the benefits of these partnerships include great connections, exposure to new consumers and a vehicle to expand globally.
- The future beauty trends the Mehta siblings say to look out for include scalp care, personalization, skinification of hair and supplements.
